Community
Ezra (Hebrew for "help") is the organisation that deals with all matters of social assistance in the Israeli Community of Barcelona.
It is governed by a committee where all members are volunteers and are bound by strict confidentiality. It is open to all Jews living in Barcelona or passing through and in need.
For this purpose:
- It reaches agreements with official institutions (city councils - especially Barcelona's, but also any other in Catalonia - and the Department of Social Welfare of the Generalitat) and private social care institutions.
- It collects and administers donations in order to reach places where official aid does not reach.
- It provides financial or in-kind assistance in some circumstances and also visits and accompanies single people without families.
- The social worker welcomes all those who wish to do so. It provides guidance, information and advice on the different types of aid.
